has swapped the newsroom for the ballroom as a contestant on this year’s series of . But learning to dance won’t be the first challenge he’s faced on camera. The Channel 4 journalist has suffered some pretty mortifying moments during his broadcasting career.
Krishnan, who is partnered with show pro Lauren Oakley on , wound up one A-list guest so much that they stormed out of the room before the interview was over. And he was once caught calling a politician a “c***”. Grilling top celebs isn’t always easy.
Daily Star has rounded up Krishnan’s most awkward interviews. Back in 2015, Robert Downey Jr walked out of his interview with Krishnan after the presenter quizzed him about his personal struggles. The Iron Man actor didn’t like it when Krishnan brought up a 2008 interview he did with the New York Times, where he’d said it was impossible to leave prison and still be a liberal.
The Hollywood titan decided to leave when Krishnan tried to ask about his previous drug battles. He asked Krishnan: “What are we doing?” He got up from his chair and bluntly responded: “Bye,” leaving Krishnan looking stunned as he Downey’s people removed his mics. Krishnan apologised and tried to continue the chat, but it was clearly over.
Two years before, Krishnan angered another Hollywood giant in director Quentin Tarantino. Things turned heated when Krishnan probed the Pulp Fiction [1994] director on a supposed link between film violence and real life violence. Quentin slammed the presenter, telling him: “I refuse your question,” telling him: “I’m not your slave and you’re not my master.
You can’t make me dance to your tune. I’m not a monkey. ” He told Krishnan he didn’t want to explore the topic and that he was there to ‘sell his movie’.
He said: “This is a commercial for the movie, make no mistake. ” The now-Strictly star tried to tell Quentin that he was simply doing his job by trying to get him to answer the question. But Quentin replied: “I’m shutting your butt down.
” Krishnan explained that he was asking about violence because it is a huge theme in his films. However, Tarantino felt he’d repeatedly spoken about the topic in previous interviews. Krishnan didn’t have much luck when he tried to speak to comedian, director and author Richard Ayoade about his book in 2014.
The IT Crowd star decided to parry every one of Krishnan’s questions. When Ayoade was asked if he felt like he was a “role model” for British Norwegians, he sarcastically replied: “I do, and I feel that Norway as a nation looks to me and my activities in many ways to marshal any kind of policies that they can drum up. ” He then compared interviews to commuting, prompting Krishnan to say: “I get that, but give me something in return.
. . ” which didn’t go down too well.
Ayoade asked: “What do you want? That was not a good chat up line. ” Ayoade then referenced the notorious Tarantino interview, saying that Tarantino had spotted the “elephant in the room” when mentioning that the interview was an advert for his film. He proceeded to describe the interview situation he was in as an “essential lie.
” When the interviewer thanked him for his time at the end of the chat, Richard gave him a final blast. He said: “Don’t thank me, I’ve done nothing for you. ” Last year, Krishnan was taken off air when he was caught calling Northern Ireland minister Steve Baker a very rude word indeed.
After his exchange with him, he could be heard saying: “What a c**t. ” The broadcaster later apologised for the foul language in what he described as an “unguarded moment. ” On X, formerly Twitter, he wrote: “After a robust interview with Steve Baker MP I used a very offensive word in an unguarded moment off air.
While it was not broadcast that word in any context is beneath the standards I set myself and I apologise unreservedly. ” He added: “I have reached out to Steve Baker to say sorry. ” The politician later accepted the apology, replying: “I appreciate you apologising.
