ARE you sick and tired of your home having condensation and damp? A mum has revealed how she struggled with the issue so much that she could fill an aqua vac (water-based hoover) every day from her windows – but she has found a clever solution. The woman uploaded a post to Facebook and insisted it was the “dehumidifier chat to end all questions. ” She explained: “We have a Grade 2 listed building which has single glazing and stone mullions which although look lovely, they are terrible for condensation.
“We dry the windows every day and they fill a Karcher aqua vac each time. ” The woman shared how she has managed to solve the issue thanks to a Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) unit that she bought from Screwfix. The mum continued: “We just installed a PIV unit which goes in the landing ceiling and pushes fresh air from the loft down into the house, pushing old stale wet air out the house.
“We turned it on at 4pm and the next day the whole house was dry. “See before and after photos. “They are supposed to help with mould as well due to no moisture in the air.
“The unit was from Screwfix and cost £300 and then you have installation on top which you could do yourself if your are tool savvy. ” She added that the unit doesn’t work well for drying clothes but it “helps with the circulation of the wet air. ” The mum said she thought it would work well in tandem with a “dehumidifier unit to dry the clothes.
” She concluded: “Not a sales pitch but thought it would be useful for some people as I know this is a very common issue people are experiencing at the moment. ” Her post has racked up nearly 1,000 likes, and people were quick to praise the idea. Many mums seemed to have the same issue and seemed interested in snapping up a machine of their own.
One wrote: “Looking at these just now. ” Another added: “Most windows grow mould around them and so do eaves in bathroom and bedroom. “Was talking to my husband this afternoon about looking into this.
” We previously shared how a property expert revealed an easy way to remove condensation from your windows in the morning. If left untreated, condensation could quickly turn into mould and pose a threat to your health . TikTok account @thatpropertyguy said in a video: “A lot of people are saying that they always get condensation on one window in the morning.
“I guarantee it’s going to be your bedroom window. Overnight the moisture from your breath is going to collect on the cold surface of the window. ” While cooking , try to use lids on pots and pans as much as possible to eliminate any moisture that may enter the home.
It can also help to wipe condensation as soon as you see it – otherwise, the window sill may warp overtime. To limit condensation, he said open a window or get a dehumidifier, but many also commented their own tips underneath his video. One said: “Most windows will have vents at the top or bottom.
They should always be open. “It allows for passive ventilation and stops condensation. “.
