Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin What will happen in the Rings Of Power season 1 finale? Ben Rothstein/Prime Video Amazon’s big-budget Lord Of The Rings TV adaptation The Rings Of Power has almost come to an end. We’re seven episodes deep, and soon the series finale will reveal everything—at least according to the trailer. I have my doubts on that front.
This show is too keen on its mystery boxes to play all its cards by the end of season 1, and even if it does I suspect we’ll have some new mysteries to unravel—and some cliffhangers to dangle from—by the end of the season finale. Of course, my biggest questions are: Will this show be able to course correct and redeem itself? and Why did Amazon make this show in the first place? Here’s the season finale trailer: I wanted to discuss this a bit before moving onto predictions for two reasons. First, a trailer can give you clues to help shape your predictions.
Second, this is the strangest season finale trailer I’ve ever watched. MORE FOR YOU Juan Soto Contract Rejection Could Make Orioles A Better Buy Than Nationals Netflix Viewing Figures To Be Independently Verified For The First Time The CTO As A Storyteller: Making Technology Understandable And Relatable In fact, this should have been the trailer they showed before they aired this show in the first place. As a pre-season trailer to get people hyped for an epic story, this works great.
If I had never seen a single episode of The Rings Of Power and just watched this trailer, I’d be stoked. It’s exciting and tense and mysterious with lots of action and swordfights and explosions and magic. Unfortunately, I’ve seen the episodes from which most of the footage is drawn.
Only a few very brief shots are from the season finale. The rest is from the previous episodes, which is why it makes so much more sense as a trailer for the show rather than a trailer for the final episode, of which we barely get a glimpse. What we do see (and hear): Presumably the three witches telling someone “You will be known at last for who you truly are for you are Lord Sauron.
. . ” (An awkward phrasing, but that’s nothing new for Rings Of Power ).
The next bit cuts to Sauron in his Peter Jackson regalia which I’ve seen other people say is our first glimpse of him, but this is actually footage from the first episode. More on who they’re speaking to in a moment. Eregion Here we see Galadriel and Halbrand riding toward Eregion: Galadriel and Halbrand Credit: Amazon We know it’s them as both their horses and their costumes match what they were riding/wearing when they left the Númenorean camp.
We know it’s Eregion because of other images below. Here we can see Galadriel in a nice green and gold dress, finally having doffed her plate cuirass: Galadriel Credit: Amazon In new promo images Amazon just released we can see Galadriel in the same dress wielding her dagger. Judging by the images below, the figure she’s looking at is Elrond, and the two of them are with Celebrimbor in his forge.
Galadriel Credit: Amazon Here she’s holding it while speaking with Celebrimbor—perhaps threatening the elven smith with it? Is she going to be the voice of caution about Celebrimbor’s plans and—rather than merely argue over it—threaten him with violence? Morfydd Clark (Galadriel), Charles Edwards (Celebrimbor) Ben Rothstein/Prime Video Celebrimbor and Elrond are by the forge we see in the trailer. Elves look on in the background: Charles Edwards (Celebrimbor), Robert Aramayo (Elrond) Ben Rothstein/Prime Video Here’s the forge: with some molten . .
. mithril, perhaps? Melty melt melt Credit: Amazon Between Galadriel’s stance and brandishing of a dagger and Celebrimbor’s words in the trailer—“We are on the cusp of crafting a new kind of power!”—I read this scene as some kind of dispute. That’s it for Eregion.
The Witches and the Harfoots We get this shot of the head witch, seemingly casting some dark enchantment, is new: I’m not a witch, I’m your wife! Credit: Amazon In promo materials we get more shots of the witches. The first is the head witch again, either casting a spell or auditioning for Season 6 of Cobra Kai. Witchy witch of the witches Ben Rothstein/Prime Video And here we have the three witches confronting the Stranger.
Recall, in the trailer we hear them say “You will be known at last for who you truly are for you are Lord Sauron. . .
” but we don’t see them here with the Stranger, so this could be a head-fake. They could be saying this when they encounter Halbrand. Or.
. . the Stranger could be Sauron I guess, though it makes no sense.
Daniel Weyman (The Stranger) Ben Rothstein/Prime Video Finally, we have two images of the Harfoots who, it seems, have not set out just yet from the Caravan and essentially tell us nothing at all about the finale: Markella Kavenagh (Elanor ‘Nori’ Brandyfoot), Megan Richards (Poppy Proudfellow) Ben Rothstein/Prime Video Sara Zwangobani (Marigold Brandyfoot), Dylan Smith (Largo Brandyfoot), Beau Cassidy (Dilly), . . .
[+] Markella Kavenagh (Elanor ‘Nori’ Brandyfoot) Ben Rothstein/Prime Video My guess is that somehow Galadriel and Halbrand cross paths with the Harfoots and/or the witches and we get a clue about Halbrand’s true identity as Sauron but I have to admit that these images and the trailer make me think that maybe the show really has positioned the Stranger as Sauron, despite him seeming like a pretty nice guy who would save Hobbits from wolves. There will be some conflict—this show adores making characters argue—around the forge over the use of mithril and the forging of the rings. Halbrand will have a key part in it despite not being shown here.
Will we see the dwarves or the Numenoreans? Harder to say since there’s nothing in the trailer or the images to suggest that. What about Arondir and Queen Bronwyn the Brave? Or Prince Theo the Soldier? Again, nothing in the trailer, and no real clues as to where their story is even headed at this point. What do you think? Let me know on Twitter or Facebook .
