Cindy Martin’s career took her far from Birmingham for 13 years. When she returned, she wanted to do something to highlight the city’s progress and the people and businesses behind the innovation. That led her to create a digital media company, keeping her finger on the pulse of Alabama’s largest metro areas.
Martin founded Bham Now seven years ago. “We launched in the summer of 2016,” Martin said. “I had left a big corporation and I wanted to stay in Birmingham.
My dad was here. He was elderly and I couldn’t find the opportunity that I wanted. So, I decided to create one.

“And I also like creating jobs. I love creating good jobs for our area and jobs that I hope will be fun and also learning tools for individuals. ” What used to be someone’s home is now the hub of activity for three different online publications that highlight local businesses, coming attractions, and the city’s movers and shakers.
“We look for people who really do care about where we live,” she said. “I stayed and I got my master’s in business at Alabama, and I thought that combination would give me a lot of flexibility with what to do with my career and started out in a development job with AT&T,” Martin said. “I moved around the country some and lived in New Jersey for a while. “A lot of what we’re doing is creative media. So, it’s got a technological base. It has a business base.

“To see our community grow and evolve and change mostly in positive ways has been very rewarding,” Martin said. “And to celebrate the excitement of where we live. ”.
