Answer by Charlene Walters, Phd, Business & Branding Mentor, Corporate Training, on Quora : Quiet quitting has been a trending topic for some time- many managers are buzzing about it.

Quiet quitting happens when employees do just enough on the job to get by- nothing more. Others refer to it as doing the bare minimum or coasting. Although it seems like it’s a new phenomenon, it’s been happening in organizations for years.

It has, however, been more noticeable recently. One of the main reasons for its rise is that many employees have felt a greater desire for work/life balance since the onset of the pandemic. Fostering conversations about career paths and an employee’s trajectory. People who see a future in an organization will want to do their best to rise up and grow with the company. As such, it’s imperative to meet with employees regularly to ensure that these type of conversations are happening.

Promoting teambuilding activities. When an employee doesn’t feel like they are part of a team, they are more likely to check out. When they are more engaged, they are that much more likely to do those things that are best for the team (even if they are outside of their job descriptions).

Team building activities are also a fun outlet for employees to get to know each other better. Encouraging employees to meditate, exercise and get enough sleep . These stress reduction techniques will go a long way to ease employees’ tension.

A well-rested, healthy employee is also a much happier employee. Recognizing and rewarding those employees who go above and beyond. This includes modeling the behavior that you want to see from the top.
