KOKRAJHAR: In a momentous ceremony held on Wednesday, the Central Institute of Technology, Kokrajhar (CIT-K) celebrated its 2nd convocation, conferring degrees upon a total of 531 students across various academic levels, including Diploma, Degree, Master, and Ph. D. programmes.
The function was organized at Bodofa Cultural Complex Auditorium, Kokrajhar, where Prof. Dhirendra Nath Buragohain, founder Director of IIT-Guwahati, graced the occasion as the chief guest, and Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Bodoland Territorial Council and president of CIT-K Society, also attended the programme. The ceremony started with the national anthem, invocation, and the lighting of the lamp, followed by Prof.
(Retd. ) Nishikant V. Deshpande, chairman of the Board of Governors (BOG), CIT Kokrajhar, declaring the convocation open.
Prof A Srinivasan, Director of CIT- Kokrajhar, presented a holistic report for the last two years, highlighting the activities and achievements of every section of the Institute. While congratulating them, he asked the graduates to carry forward the spirit of academic curiosity and excellence instilled in them and contribute to the enrichment of the beauty and culture of this region. In the speech, the chairman of the BOG, Prof.
(Retd. ) Nishikant V Deshpande gave his advice and guidance on how a graduate can embark on their professional journey in a fast-changing and evolving world. He stressed the importance of dreaming big, learning continuously, making collaborations, and being persistent.
Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member (CEM), celebrated the achievements of the graduating class of 2022 and 2023, extending gratitude to teachers, parents, and families. Addressing the challenges faced by the graduates, the CEM encouraged a solution-oriented approach and emphasized their pivotal role in shaping the nation’s future. Boro expressed confidence in the graduates’ potential to lead in critical areas such as flood management, agricultural productivity, and healthcare services through the application of innovative technologies.
Furthermore, the CEM also highlighted the importance of social responsibility, envisioning the graduates as socially responsible engineers who would contribute significantly to India’s overall growth. Chief guest Prof. Buragohain encouraged the graduates to capitalize on the nation’s resurgence, citing a transformative period from centuries-old slumber.
He urged graduating students to approach problem-solving with resilience and determination, drawing inspiration from figures like Thomas Edison. The speech emphasized India’s shift towards self-reliance, showcasing success stories like Bipin Kadam’s innovative robot and the Sit-Walker project developed by students in Pune. He stressed the importance of daring to dream and thinking creatively, citing examples from Sony’s success story.
Looking toward the future, Prof. Buragohain shared ambitious proposals, including a satellite-based solution for the global energy crisis. The graduates were called upon to lead India in overcoming challenges, contributing to technological advancements, and shaping a self-reliant and innovative nation.
The speech concluded with a hopeful outlook, asserting that determination and confidence would lead the graduates to success in their future endeavours. The convocation ceremony concluded with the distribution of degrees and diplomas, marking a significant milestone in the academic journey of the 531 accomplished students.
