Answer by Hunter Ray Barker, Co-Founder at Bullfrog Digital Marketing Agency & SEO Company, on Quora : Let me preface this answer by defining what I feel “smart” means in the case of introducing a new consumer product or service. What I believe wouldn’t be smart is spending a ton of time, money, and resources building a consumer product or service to find that… people don’t want it! So “smart” would mean knowing that your target audience wants it before you introduce it. Here are a few ways you can go about accomplishing that: 1.
Sending a survey to your existing customer list. By building out a survey using Google Forms (or any other similar software), you can ask pointed questions about the product or service to see if your audience would actually want to buy the product or service you’re thinking of offering them. This is what you want. 2. Using paid advertising to survey your audience.
You can run the same survey to a cold audience by leveraging paid advertising (Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads, etc. ) This way you will get responses from people who might have never heard of your business before nor have a relationship with your business. 3.
Partnering with an adjacent company in your industry to gage interest. If there is another company that shares a similar audience you’d want to introduce your new product or service to, you can reach out to partner with them to send the survey to their list. This can be especially beneficial as you can leverage their authority, the relationship with their audience, and don’t need to spend a dime on paid advertising (if that isn’t your cup of joe).
Plus! I highly recommend checking out the book “ASK” by Ryan Levesque. It dives deep into this concept of asking your ideal customer to make sure that your new product or service is a hit before sacrificing all the time and money that goes into creating and launching it successfully.
