GUWAHATI: With an aim to improve the maternal and child health status in the State, National Health Mission (NHM), Assam under the leadership of Mission Director Dr MS Lakshmi Priya, has taken a series of measures. According to a communiqué, the measures include organizing a two-day consultation conclave and a week-long Special ANC drive in all districts during last week of May this year, visits by the State Team Leader in each district followed by field visist by district team members to carry forward the momentum set by the State team members. The State has also decided to scale up innovation in all districts of Assam to improve the maternal and child health scenario.
A two- day consultation conclave was launched by Health Minister Keshab Mahanta on Wednesday at the Assam Administrative Staff College in the presence of Avinash Joshi, Principal Secretary, Health, Dr MS Lakshmi Priya, Dr Manoj Kumar Choudhury, Executive Director, NHM Assam , Pomi Baruah, OSD, NHM Assam, Dr Ravikumar AV, Deputy Chief, USAID-NISHTHA, JHPIEGO. The consultation conclave was also attended by NHM State Health Team, District Health Teams of NHM, all development partners to review the district wise performance on major health indicators and course corrections. The two day consultation workshop is supported by ‘USAID-NISHTHA’, JHPIEGO.
A week-long Ante-Natal Care (ANC) drive was also carried out in all districts on Assam from May 30 to June 5. A consolidated SOP was designed for the special ANC drive wherein the main points were targeted for reduction of MMR and IMR, Mobilization of all pregnant women (new and already registered cases) to the Sub-Centres/Primary Health Centers for ANC checks during the drive. The various activities/services of the campaign were ANC check-up of pregnant women by Sectoral Medical Personnel, updation of MCP card, orientation of MCP card, History Taking, General investigation of all pregnant women, Abdominal Examination, Various Laboratory Test like urine sugar, HIV Screening, etc.
, IFA, Calcium supplements provided to every pregnant women, Administration of single dose of Albendazole 400 mg to pregnant women after 1st trimester, Identification of HRPW cases, Orientation/Reorientation of ANMs on MCP card by CHO, Micro birth planning of all pregnant women, Counseling of Pregnant Women, Generation of ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) and linking with RCH. During this ANC Drive, a total 1,71,948 pregnant women received Ante-natal check up. Out of which 35,014 (20.
4%) high risk pregnant women were identified during the drive. Health Workers will ensure that all proper treatment and care will be given to these identified high risk pregnant women. State Teams visited each districts (zone-wise) to monitor and supervise the Maternal Death Review (MDR), Child Death Review (CDR) Village Health and Sanitation Nutrition Day (VHSND), Vector Borne Diseases Monitoring, NHM Programmes etc.
