Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin On Saturday, September 3 rd all major theaters in the US and UK will be offering cinema seats for just $3 or £3, while in Ireland it will cost just €4. Note that the $3/£3/€4 price will not include taxes or booking fees, so there will be some extra on top of that. Still, it’s a very enticing price especially as it includes all formats, so whether your chosen film is showing in IMAX or on a standard screen you’ll pay the same.
This is all part of a promotion to get as many people as possible to cross the threshold of a cinema to boost a struggling industry, which is down around a third over 2019 takings. In the US, AMC and Regal cinemas will be taking part, while in the UK, all major chains, Cineworld, Odeon, Vue, and Empire are on board. I note that my local high street independent Reel Cinemas is also joining the fun.
In the US, you can find a participating cinema on the National Cinema Day website, but in the UK and Ireland, there’s no unifying destination – just head to the website of your local cinema. A notable absence in the UK is Everyman, which clearly has no interest in getting mainstream punters across its doors – adult tickets on the day are a standard £16. 75.
Charming. If anything, as the Waitrose of cinema chains, its clientele will be even more glad that the great unwashed are even less likely to be disturbing their trip out to the flicks on Saturday 3 rd . Take your pick of movie formats for just three quid this Saturday (September 3rd 2022) Cineworld What’s exciting is that the one price for all is real leveler so this is an ideal opportunity to try out some premium options that you wouldn’t normally go for.
The obvious one is IMAX – its seats are generally very expensive and offer a huge screen and a huge sound system, so if you don’t normally indulge you should. It could also be an amazing opportunity to try a Dolby Cinema, offering high-quality Dolby Vision HDR visuals, with class-leading contrast, Dolby Atmos surround sound, and plush seats. In the UK, it’s still a rare format with only there are only five in the UK and two of these are in London’s Leicester Square, the others being in Manchester, Birmingham, and Leeds.

Then there are the novelty formats: ScreenX, which claims to offer a 270° projection, with extra image down the sides, but my pick would be 4DX, which combines cinema with theme park: delivering seats that move and thump you in the back in sync with on-screen activity, air, water, and lights. It’s ridiculous, and, if the movie is fun, an absolute hoot – and for £3/$3 (plus extras) it’s a steal.
There are indications that like Black Friday this becomes an annual fixture, which would be welcome. To whet your cinematic appetite, here are some of the films on offer this weekend at my local Cineworld – dig in and enjoy. · Beast · Bullet Train · E.
