Data cloud firm Snowflake names ex-Microsoft executive Vijayant Rai as new India MD

Data cloud company Snowflake on Tuesday said it has appointed former Microsoft executive director Vijayant Rai as its new managing director in India. Rai takes over from Vimal Venkatram, who has moved to a regional role for Snowflake, based in Singapore, a company statement said. He will be responsible for driving business growth and go-to-market strategy for Snowflake in India, it added.

Before joining Snowflake, Rai served as the executive director for Microsoft India and was the country leader for its banking and financial services segment. Prior to this, he held leadership roles in Salesforce , SAP, Oracle and IBM, among others. The new MD has over 27 years of experience.

At Snowflake, Rai will spearhead business expansion across India, oversee strategy, sales and execution, and drive the adoption of Snowflake’s data cloud across various industries, among other priorities, as per the statement.

The New York Stock Exchange-listed company, founded in 2012, offers its clients across industries use its platform to unite siloed data, discover and securely share data, power data applications, and execute diverse artificial intelligence, machine learning and analytic workloads. India is a strategic market for Snowflake, where it serviced digital native firms including the likes of Byju’s, Swiggy, Marico, Khatabook, Urban Company and Cars24 so far.
