Officers were confronted by the group of 15 bike riders at Williams Landing in south-east Melbourne at 2pm on July 29. Dashcam footage from the highway patrol vehicle allegedly showed the thugs doing wheelies and riding the bikes at high speeds on the road.

A visibly agitated cop warns the riders to stop their antics before he is seen speaking on a handheld radio calling for back-up.

‘Police arrested one individual and during the arrest, the group of riders came back and circled police, riding on the wrong side of the road,’ a police spokeperson said. ‘The group continued this activity for about two minutes while two officers arrested the individual, before they rode off from the area. ‘Footage of the alleged incident taken from the police vehicle has been released in the hope that anyone who has information about the identity of the riders can come forward to police’.

A spokeswoman from Victoria Police confirmed the young rider who was arrested was charged with various offences including unregistered and unlicensed driving. Police refused to provide further details as the driver is underage. Inspector Jane Horgan of the Westgate Police Division issued a warning to people riding dirt bikes on roads that they will be caught.

The force recently received two new motorbikes which were funded by Wyndham City Council to respond to these incidents.
