Ford Australia has recalled almost 19,000 Mustangs made between 2014 and 2017, after faulty wiring in the boot caused operational errors with the rear-view camera. The defect was found in the wiring harness of the boot lid, which could cause problems with the camera, satellite radio reception and the boot release.

The recall affects 18,840 cars, and the government has compiled a list including the VN for every Mustang affected by the issue. Ford Australia has recalled almost 19,000 Ford Mustangs made between 2014 and 2017 after faulty wiring in the boot caused operational errors with the rear-view camera (pictured is a coupe from that era at the International Motor Show in Paris) A faulty rear-view camera is liable to cause death and destruction, the Department of Transport said. ‘If the rear-view camera display does not continually display the rear-view image whilst reversing the vehicle, it could increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to any persons located behind the vehicle,’ it said.

Owners of the recalled cars will also be contacted by Ford directly as they race to get the cars off the road. The company will contact each driver personally, and will urge them to make an appointment at a Ford Authorised Dealership so that repairs can be made free of charge.
