World Car of the Year In a departure from recent history, the 2023 World Car Awards winners will receive trophies designed by a former World Car Design winner. The new trophies, in time for the 19th annual World Car Awards presentation at the New York International Auto Show next April, have been created by the Callum design and engineering consultancy of former Jaguar design impresario Ian Callum. Callum’s new World Car Awards trophies, will not be unveiled before the presentation, but will retain the existing theme of a globe with a Saturn-style ring around it.

“The World Car Awards are held in the highest regard by the industry and as a recipient, I appreciate how much it means to a design team to have it proudly on display in the studio,” Callum said. “Re-imagining both the design and manufacture is a huge privilege and just the opportunity the team at Callum relish. ” Widely regarded as one of the greatest car designers of his age and one of the last to prioritise beauty and proportions over drama and aggression, Callum won the World Car Design of the Year for the Jaguar F-Pace in 2017 and the I-Pace EV in 2019.

In a purple patch for Jaguar, the F-Pace won the outright World Car of the Year award in 2017 and then added another outright title (as well as the World Green Car award) for the I-Pace in 2019, the year Callum left Jaguar Land Rover. He has designed some of the car industry’s most seminal modern cars including the Aston Martin DB7 and Vanquish, plus the sleek Jaguar XF and XJ sedans. He began his career contributing to the designs of the Ford RS200 and Escort RS Cosworth rally specials, but also delivered cars like the Volvo C70 coupe, the Nissan R390 Le Mans challenger, the Aston Martin DB9 and the Jaguar C-X75 concept car.
