Google recently hosted its ninth Google for India event in New Delhi, where it introduced numerous developments and enhancements to its apps and services tailored for the Indian market. The event showcased advancements in AI, an improved shopping experience, ONDC updates, government partnerships, and much more. Google unveiled an exciting update to its Search Generative Experience (SGE), a novel feature that compiles information from various online articles to provide concise summaries.

This update brings support for images and videos, broadening its capabilities. It can even generate images based on your text prompts. Moreover, SGE now incorporates user reviews, simplifying product and service decisions.

It also features user reviews for over 100 government schemes, enriching information accessibility. In July, Google introduced support for Indian languages in Bard, an AI-based conversational tool. At the Google for India event, they confirmed the expansion of Bard’s multilingual abilities.

It can now interact in nine Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, and Urdu. Google is enhancing the shopping experience for users by making physical stores more prominent in search results. Users can now access valuable information such as shipping timelines, inventory details, and product pricing from local stores.

Furthermore, the Business Messages feature is set to arrive on Search by the end of 2023, enabling direct private chats between users and merchants. Merchants will also have the option to display product catalogues online, streamlining the browsing and purchasing process for customers. Google is entering into a partnership with the Indian government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform.

This collaboration holds great promise, particularly for farmers, as it enables them to directly sell their produce online through ONDC, addressing a significant concern in the agricultural sector. Additionally, Google announced its partnership with Bhashini and MeitY, further expanding its government collaborations. Google Pay is introducing a fraud prevention feature that alerts users and blocks transactions upon confirmation of fraudulent activity.

The app will vibrate when detecting a suspicious transaction, prompting users to reconsider. This feature supports nine Indian languages in addition to English and aligns with Google’s ‘Digikavach’ initiative. Furthermore, the Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced Google’s Digital Pragati mission, offering microfinance schemes and easy loan grants on the Google Pay app.

Google Pay has also partnered with banks and finance firms to provide loans as small as Rs 15,000, with repayments starting from Rs 111. Google is enhancing the YouTube experience by making it easier for users to access news content. With this update, users can simply tap on a video to gather comprehensive information about a particular topic.

This includes news stories, explainer videos, shorts, and related stories, reinforcing YouTube’s commitment to connecting viewers with timely and substantive news content. In summary, Google’s ninth Google for India event showcased a host of exciting updates, partnerships, and improvements that cater to the diverse needs of the Indian market, ranging from AI innovations to enhanced shopping experiences and news accessibility. These developments aim to make Google’s services more relevant and beneficial to users in India.
