The vehicle hit a tree on The Grand Parade in Monterey, just south of Sydney Airport, at around 9.

Paramedics arrived at the scene following the crash and treated the two boys aged nine and ten. They were taken to Sydney’s Children’s Hospital where they died. The other child, a nine-year-old girl was also taken to hospital after she suffered minor injuries.

The car hit a tree on the Grand Parade in Monterey, near Sydney airport around 9. 50pm on Friday Inspector Hogan said police will be investigating whether speed led to the crash. ‘That will be a significant line of inquiry for our crash investigators, to establish the speed of the vehicle, and that appears to be.

A crime scene has been established. Inspector Hogan said police will be looking to conduct an interview with the driver of the vehicle as soon as possible. Detectives from the NSW Crash Investigations Unit will investigate whether speeding was a factor in the horror crash, as police hunt for a grey sedan which the allege was involved in the accident ‘Upon medical advice we will be looking to interview and charge him at a later time,’ Inspector Hogan said.

‘It is a particularly nasty crash where two innocent young children have lost their lives’. Locals have regularly complained about ‘drag racing’ along Grand Parade in Monterey. ‘I heard the cries and then I just come out directly and I saw the people start coming out and then I found the car here already and people trying to help the people stuck inside the car,’ an eyewitness said on Saturday morning.

‘I saw actually the car engine outside here, totally in different place. ‘ A neighbour was also drawn from his house after hearing a ‘massive’ bang. ‘Went outside and there was help at the scene and we tried to go to the right side of the car and pull out the doorway and to do that, the girl came out (and) was crying, .

. . the other side (was) jammed from the impact,’ he told the ABC.
