. . [+] daughter of Alexander Dugin, Russian political scientist and ally of President Vladimir Putin exploded on Mozhayskoye highway in Moscow, Russia on August 21, 2022.

In a statement, Russia’s Investigation Committee said: “The crime was planned in advance and committed on order, according to information received. ” A criminal investigation has been launched into the incident. It has been widely speculated that Dugin, who has been described as “Putin’s brain” and an architect of the war in Ukraine, may have been the intended target. He was reportedly supposed to drive back to Central Moscow with his daughter but decided at the last minute to travel in another car. Video that has widely circulated on social media showed Dugin’s reaction to the explosion that killed his daughter.

He could be seen holding his head in shock as he stared at the burning wreck. In addition, rubble was seen strewn across the road. That video has been seen hundreds of thousands of times.

On Monday, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had “solved the case,” and apparently blamed it on a Ukrainian operative. Dugin released a statement on Sunday regarding the assassination, and painted her as a martyr. “My daughter Darya Dugina was brutally murdered in front of me,” the statement on Telegram read.

“She was a beautiful Orthodox woman, patriot, war reporter, an expert for central TV and philosopher. We only need our victory. My daughter sacrificed her young woman’s life to its altar.

So please, achieve it!” What do you think? One Community, Many Voices. Be the first to comment comments posted on Forbes. Add your voice now.

Join the Conversation The Wrong Daria Dugina It has been reported that since Saturday, a 22-year-old Russian cheerleader has been receiving comments and condolences on her social media accounts. “I’M ALIVE,” the similarly-named Daria Dugina had to post on her Instagram feed. She added that she has been unable to delete any comments or even close the account at this point! Mocking The Dead – Fitting Response? While a handful of users on social media condemned the killing of Darya Dugina, aged 29, vast numbers of others have responded by posting videos of her on Russian State TV where she vocally and passionately supported the war on Ukraine.

Some Twitter users took it even further, and created memes that mocked her father’s reaction, with one evoking Edvard Munch’s The Scream, while another simply captioned the image, “That feeling you get when your daughter got blown up without you. ” Even some who vocally support Ukraine have suggested that such disdain of the dead may be ill-advised. That is a sentiment shared by Matthew Schmidt, Ph.

D. , University of New Haven associate professor of national security and political science. “The kinds of memes and kind of mockery you see on social media dehumanizes the Dugins,” said Schmidt.

“It dehumanizes the pain that Alexander must be feeling. That said, it is like saying, ‘don’t mock the death of Joseph Goebbels’ daughter,’ right, because both Dugins were complicit in the kind of propaganda and the ideology that allowed Putin to invade Ukraine and dehumanize the Ukrainian people; and it opened the way for brutal human rights violations and for murder there. ” Thus, instead of cheering Darya Dugin’s death, Schmidt said it could serve as a way to put the spotlight on others who have lost loved ones in the unprovoked war in Ukraine.

“I would use this opportunity to bring that brutality into the spotlight rather than to mock them. ” Follow me on Twitter . Peter Suciu Editorial Standards Print Reprints & Permissions.
