RAC worker rammed first car into minibus after trying to ‘outrun’ cops at 90mph in Walsall

An RAC worker who hurtled his first car into a minibus as he attempted to ‘outrun’ police in a 90mph chase has walked free from court. Dangerous driver Rizwan Saddique ‘panicked’ when he came across officers making their way to another incident in the Black Country. The 20-year-old – who has since lost his job with the RAC – eventually smashed into a minibus, injuring the driver.

He also destroyed the front of his Seat, which he had only purchased two days earlier. Uninsured driver Saddique, of Flaxhall Street, Walsall , has now avoided time behind bars for his offending. Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how police were in an unmarked car with sirens and lights on as they headed to an unrelated incident last September.

They also suspected the car he was driving was stolen, prosecutor David Jackson said. Police decided to pursue Saddique but he accelerated away, reaching speeds of 90mph, at about 12.

40am. Officers momentarily lost sight of the car as Saddique headed towards red traffic lights near Bescot Road’s junction with Old Pleck Road. But they soon noticed the convict had collided with a minibus which had also been travelling towards the traffic lights.

Mr Jackson said: “The Seat was in the middle of the junction, facing the wrong way, with extensive damage to the front, having collided with the minibus. ” Paramedics were called to the scene after the minibus driver complained of a possible injury to his neck. In a statement read to the court, he said: “Every time I’m driving now, especially on junctions, I’m wary because I do not know what could happen or if anyone would ram into me.

” The court heard how Saddique – who had no previous convictions – bought the car with his brother just two days before the crash. Antonie Miller, defending , said Saddique was ‘thrilled’ to have his first car but had not ‘secured immediate insurance’. He added: “Saddique panicked and tried to outrun trained police officers [who were] in a vehicle in which they were very familiar.

He was not. “There was only ever going to be one winner, and it was the police, and one loser, and it was Saddique. Had he caused the injuries he could have caused in that collision, he could be going to prison for many years.

“He is lucky, in a sense, that the injuries were surprisingly light. ” Saddique lost his job with the RAC due to his dangerous driving, Mr Miller said. Sentencing , Recorder Dawson said it was ‘extremely lucky’ no one was killed in the collision.

Saddique admitted dangerous driving, failing to stop and driving without insurance. He was handed a 12-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, and a 12-month driving ban on Tuesday, July 4. The defendant must also carry out 150 hours unpaid work and was made subject to a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
