That’s according to one of the nation’s biggest used car marketplaces, which says the quickest selling model is a German SUV that – on average – is advertised for just 11 days before a buyer is found. That compares to an average across all models of just over a month on sale (34 days), it said. All bout one of the cars in the list (Ford’s Galaxy) are classed as ‘nearly new’, meaning they are less than a year old. The short selling periods is also a result of the ongoing shortage of new vehicles, with demand for the used market at record high levels since the pandemic.
Second in the list behind the BMW X1 is Lexus’ own compact SUV – the hybrid NX350h, which takes an average of just 12 days to move on. kia’s Ceed hatchback and Sportage SUV, Honda’s Civic family car, Audi’s EQ2 fast SUV and Jaguar’s posh E-Pace tie for joint third spot, all taking an average of 13 days to sell. Dacia’s Duster, one of the most affordable family cars on the market is joint eighth for short selling times with Ford’s Galaxy MPV, which is a favourite among big families with limited vehicle choice and also taxi firms and shuttle businesses.
Taking the final spot in the top 10 is the DS 3 Crossback, averaging 15 days on the second-hand market until a buyer is found. The second fastest-selling used car of all is the Lexus NX350h hybrid, taking just 12 days on average If you own a year-old Kia Ceed, you can expect to sell it within 13 days, says Auto Trader The bigger Kia Sportage also takes just 13 days to sell after first being listed online, Auto Trader claims Honda’s Civic has been a popular choice in Britain for decades. ‘Nearly new’ examples can find a new keeper in 13 days on average Commenting on the findings, Erin Baker, editorial director at Auto Trader, said: ‘With nine of the 10 fastest-selling cars in the UK over the last year aged under 12 months old, the shortfall in brand-new car supply continues to have a big influence on car buying decisions.
‘Although the supply of new cars is slowly improving, many would-be, brand-new car buyers who aren’t prepared to wait are preferring to turn to the second-hand market for ‘nearly-new’ alternatives. ‘It’s also interesting to note that hybrid models made up the majority of the fastest sellers. ‘Fully electric prices are softening, but for many, they aren’t quite in reach yet, so for those car buyers who still want great economy and lower emissions than traditionally fuelled vehicles but without the price tag, hybrids are a good option.
