This light bar is the perfect gadget if you’re spending hours in front of the screen

With so many of us now working desk jobs, we’ve become accustomed to spending long hours in front of a computer screen. Obviously, this is less than ideal, especially when you consider the strain on your eyes that can come about while staring at the computer screen in poor lighting conditions, regardless of whether you’re working, binge-watching movies and TV shows, or gaming hours into the night. This is where monitor light bars come in.

For those still unfamiliar with the concept of light bars, they’re basically portable lights that can be affixed to the top of your monitors, and work to illuminate the viewing area in front of your screen, which in turn reduces the chance of eye fatigue and irritation from long hours of staring at your monitor’s pixels. If you’re intrigued by the idea of using such a device for your setup, the ScreenLinear Pro from Quntis is one you might want to consider. My testing of the ScreenLinear Pro yielded a satisfactory experience due to its ease of use, sturdy build, and solid lighting quality.

The light bar is supposedly designed for monitors between 15 and 22 inches, with the capability to sit on top of screens between 0. 3 and 1. 4 inches thick.

The accompanying clamps that came with the device pretty much allowed me to rest the light bar above my own display (0. 7-inch thickness) pretty comfortably, with an adjustable weighted point anchoring it firmly and preventing it from moving at all. When it came to functionality, I appreciated the simplicity of the touch controls, which mostly responded well to my taps on the top, with the only gripe being that I’d still prefer the tactile feel of actual buttons – although I completely understand the purpose behind such a design (to prevent wobbling or accidentally moving the light bar).

On either side of the light bar are two buttons each that control power, light color temperature, auto-dimming, and brightness levels. The light color temperatures and brightness levels were extensive and offered me plenty of options when it came to adjusting the levels to suit my ambient space. For users who wish to use the ScreenLinear Pro in dark environments, it’ll be reassuring to know that it performs quite admirably, lending the right amount of soft luminance to counteract the glare from the screen without leaving any annoying residual reflection.

Even for long durations of use, the ScreenLinear Pro did not cause me any eye fatigue or irritations but instead worked pretty well to lessen the strain caused by staring at my monitor for too long. This applied especially well to working with word documents, spreadsheets, and emails, although I found that having a source of light from the top of the screen while watching videos or playing games was distracting at first. While I couldn’t test it out definitively, Quntis has said that the ScreenLinear Pro works well to block blue light and optical radiation, with an estimated lifespan of up to 40,000 hours.

Overall, I discovered the ScreenLinear Pro to be a very worthwhile productivity tool that helped to make my sessions in front of the screen (especially in low-light conditions) more comfortable and bearable for longer periods. Of course, you may be tempted to do the same and spend some extra hours in front of your own display, but it’s still much better to take breaks as often as you can. If you’re interested in the ScreenLinear Pro by Quntis, you can grab it for S$45.
