UKRAINE – 2022/02/02: In this photo illustration, a Wordle, a web-based word game is seen on a Welcome back to your daily Wordle guide, my most wonderful and amazing Wordlers! We’re nearly halfway through the fine month of December already, and just ten days away from Christmas. The new year is almost upon us! Crazy! Today is Thor’s Day—a day for lightning and thunder, though it appears we’ll have clear skies. Yesterday was Odin’s Day or, more importantly, Wordle Wednesday for our purposes.

Every Wednesday I dole out a riddle, brain teaser or logic puzzle on top of the Wordle, and every Thursday I give the answer. Here was yesterday’s puzzle: A man has 53 socks in his drawer: 21 identical blue, 15 identical black and 17 identical red. The lights are out and he is completely in the dark.

How many socks must he take out to make 100 percent certain he has at least one pair of black socks? The answer: 40. Assuming the worst possible luck, a man could pull out 21 blue socks and 17 red socks before ever drawing a black sock. That’s 38 socks in total, and two more black socks are required for a pair for a grand total of 40.

Alright, let’s do this Wordle! . . .

Today’s Wordle Wordle Bot Analysis I don’t feel terrible about my guessing game today, though my opening word— could have been better. With 255 words remaining and just one yellow ‘O’ I had quite the uphill battle. is not only how I would describe my opening guess, but also my second guess, which luckily gave me two green vowels and a yellow ‘L’ in the bargain.

I followed this up with yet another bad guess, however, picking instead of the much more obvious choice (Wordle Bot helpfully mocked me about this lapse in judgement). would have narrowed my options to just one, but instead I had four words remaining at this point. I came up with and lucked out.

As for my hint, I give you Simon and Garfunkel: A total wash today. I get 0 points for guessing in four, but Wordle Bot didn’t fare any better, so I get another 0 points for the tie. Zeroes all around! Huzzah! The word “would” has an interesting etymology rooted in Old English.

It originates from the Old English word “wolde,” which is the past tense of “willan,” meaning to want or to wish. This Old English term, in turn, stems from Proto-Germanic *willjanan, which also meant to want or to will. Over time, “wolde” evolved into “would” in Modern English.

It’s used as a past tense form or as a modal verb to indicate a conditional or hypothetical situation. The evolution of this word reflects the broader changes that have occurred in the English language, transitioning from its Germanic roots to the more complex system of tenses and modals we use today. Play Competitive Wordle Against Me! I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But.

Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course). You can also . Here are the rules: You can either keep a running tally of your score if that’s your jam or just play day-to-day if you prefer.
