Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Madden 23 Credit: EA Madden 23 releases on August 19, but I have had an opportunity to play the full retail version for the past 48 hours. I was also privy to information about the game’s development through multiple virtual meetings with members of the development team. While I’m working on a full, scored review that should be ready on August 19, there are already a few things to share from my notes.
Thing of it as a preview of the latest addition to the Madden NFL series. Here are 7 quick things you should know about Madden 23. The Opening Sequence is a Virtual Love Letter to the Icon I admit, I initially started to button through the opening Madden Legacy game experience in Madden 23.
I caught myself, listened to the dedicated commentary about the late John Madden, admired the smoothly rendered remodeled versions of him on the AFC and NFC sidelines, and I was glad I took the time to appreciate the presentation. Without spoiling any of the experience, it’s worth your time to play, watch and listen if you have respect for the deceased football legend and his contributions to the sport. MORE FOR YOU ‘Demon Slayer’ Season 2 Finally Has An Actual 2021 Release Date Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Not A Sure Thing, Says Director ‘Genshin Impact’ Still Refuses To Increase Anniversary Rewards, Despite Fan Outcry There are Some Notable Visual Improvements Don’t get it twisted; Madden 23 doesn’t take a monumental leap in visual fidelity when compared to Madden 22.
However, there are several moments that have been improved enough for me to notice, and to think to myself: “wow, that looks cool. ” Zone Defenses Work Much Better It is tough to quantify how important this improvement to gameplay is for the overall scope of Madden gameplay. Being able to trust your A.
I-controlled teammates to realistically play the coverage you called is excellent, and it positively impacts the experience on both sides of the ball. Defense makes more sense and in turn, QB play is more fun, challenging and rewarding. More-Skill-Driven Players Will See the Benefits of the New Passing Mechanics The biggest new offensive gameplay change is the new Skill-Based Passing.
You can still use classic passing, but I recommend using SBP, at least for a while. The system is pretty intuitive and there are two options: Accuracy and Placement or Power and Placement). I’ve been playing on the latter, but I’m not totally committed to it over the first option just yet.
Stay tuned. Collisions and Contact Have Improved Hit Everything is one of the taglines for this year’s Madden as the dev team has taken steps toward creating more tangibility between players. You will notice more animations and more physics-based movement in the hybrid approach EA has chosen.
It’s not perfect as players still sometimes react in ways that made me replay in search of a logical answer for a fall or broken tackle. However, it feels more like real football action than previous versions. Franchise Mode is Massively Improved, Though Still Imperfect The biggest improvement across the board appears to be to the franchise mode.
I’m still vetting many of the new additions like free agency tags, motivations and draft logic, but on paper, there is no questioning EA made this mode a priority this year. I can say the trade logic looks much improved. I decided to try and pry DK Metcalf away from the Seattle Seahawks for my Chicago Bears.
I got it done, but Seattle made me give them a 2023 first-rounder, a 2024 second-rounder and RT Teven Jenkins (who plays a position list as a need for the Seahawks) to get it done. That felt fair and logical. By the way, if I’m Ryan Poles, I do that in a millisecond.
Face of the Franchise Functions a Bit Differently Face of the Franchise needed a new element and true Player-Lock might do the trick. It’s still a little early in my evaluation, but I do like how easy it is to differentiate the experience from franchise and other aspects of the game. This Feels Like a Year Where MUT Will Receive Some Significant Post-Release Content Quite honestly, EA didn’t add a ton to Ultimate Team.
That’s OK as it was already the most fleshed-out part of the game. Still, based on what we’re seeing from FIFA and how important we know MUT is to EA’s bottom line, this seems like a year where MUT will receive some interesting post-release content. Stay tuned for the full review of Madden 23.
