Innovation How One Of One Of Ukraine’s Largest Poultry Producers Continues Nourishing Its Citizens Tim Clark Brand Contributor SAP BRANDVOICE Storytelling and expertise from marketers | Paid Program Aug 29, 2022, 08:18am EDT | Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Headquartered in Kyiv, MHP was founded over 20 years ago and is the largest exporter of chicken and one of the largest exporters of grain in Ukraine and Europe, reaching 80 countries across the globe. MHP Like many other Ukrainian businesses negatively affected by Russia’s unprovoked invasion and war in Ukraine, MHP , the country’s largest food producer is staring down an impossible scenario: How to keep feeding its displaced citizens with food and other humanitarian aid and sustain its core business. By adhering to the core company’s values, aligning with the Ukranian government and leveraging a powerful tech platform, MHP believes it can offer ongoing humanitarian support and position its business for growth once the war is over.
Headquartered in Kyiv, MHP was founded over 20 years ago, and comprises a group of agricultural production assets, food production and food retail. Its facilities span Ukraine and Balkan countries while satellite companies (distribution and trading offices) function in the Netherlands, Great Britain, Saudi Arabia, and several other markets. MHP is the largest exporter of chicken and one of the largest exporters of grain in Ukraine and Europe, reaching 80 countries across the globe.
“Our history reflects our brand’s DNA: Ukrainian spirit – international scale,” said Oleksii Reshetniak, Chief Digital & Information Officer, MHP. “We started our journey in Ukraine but it is our Ukrainian values and character that will help us to achieve our goals and roll them out worldwide. ” A wartime strategy unfolds It was during the first hours of the war when MHP top management gathered in the Kyiv HQ to re-establish company goals.
The following strategy quickly emerged: 1. Continue production and retail operations, ensuring food security of Ukraine 2. Take care of MHP’s 26,000+ employees 3.
Provide humanitarian aid for those who need it most As a result, MHP did not stop operations for a single day, including production sites with critical proximity to the front lines. In addition, MHP started its humanitarian mission on the first day of war, having distributed more than 11. 5 thousand tons of poultry to medical facilities, nursery homes, support centers for the elderly and temporarily displaced people, as well as citizens struggling in areas close to the front lines.
While MHP’s unwavering Ukrainian spirit and humanitarian support is crucial, priorities shifted in the second month of the war when MHP, in partnership with the Ukrainian government, refined their strategy. “Our government said they are grateful for the things we are doing but we also need to strike the right balance,” said Reshetniak. “We should still remain a thriving business outside of our humanitarian efforts and help support food security of the world.
” Working directly with the original administration, MHP figured out a better strategy to understand where food and humanitarian aid should be delivered to help reduce stress on its core business. A website was created for different Ukrainian entities to apply for aid which provided much needed visibility for areas that needed the most help. “We are now much better structured to be a thriving business even within this very difficult wartime economy,” said Reshetniak.
Battle-tested technology creates winning environment Without the proper technology in place, Oleksiy said it would be nearly impossible for MHP to find balance in delivering much needed humanitarian aid while keeping the business moving forward. Thankfully, a strategic and evolving five-year partnership with SAP is helping navigate and solve myriad challenges in the current wartime economy while also building for future growth. “Running SAP solutions help us to overcome emerging crisis like constantly shifting market demands and logistical collapses while connecting us to a global economy and contributing to the current global food crisis mitigation,” said Reshetniak.
“Our strategy is to finalize full scale digital transformation at the core with a full range of SAP solutions from resource management to employee and customer experience relationship management. ” Despite disruptions of the ongoing war, MHP made the difficult decision to pursue the next step in their journey, implementing SAP S/4 HANA at production facilities in the Balkans. SAP S/4 HANA allows MHP to meet demand by managing all company resources and processes in an efficient and sustainable manner.
“One of the key known benefits of SAP is its amazing scalability,” said Reshetniak. “We can roll out operations to a new market in a few months under a defined business process template. ” Reshetniak said SAP’s incredible commercial support allowed MHP to start the rebuild process even now while the war is still raging.
“We need to rebuild and that’s why we are implementing a cornerstone of our future right now. Our business continues, even though it’s not business as usual. ” Follow me on Twitter or LinkedIn .
