In his first start of the season, MJ Morris threw a career-best four touchdown passes as North Carolina State topped Marshall 48-41 Saturday afternoon in Raleigh. Morris, a sophomore, completed 17 of 32 passes for 265 yards. He threw three interceptions – including two in the first quarter – but settled into the game and put N.

C. State (4-2) into a position to win. He got the starting job when former Virginia star Brennan Armstrong was benched after the previous week’s loss to Louisville.

Marshall (4-1) saw its nine-game win streak that dated to last season snapped. Cam Fancher led the Thundering Herd with a season-high 315 passing yards and four touchdowns – two passing and two rushing. The clash was a fast-paced shootout that featured six lead changes.

When the dust settled, it was the highest scoring game either team had been a part of all season. Quarterback Thomas Castellanos ran for his fourth touchdown of the game with 25 seconds left to give the Eagles (3-3) a victory over Army (2-3) in West Point, New York. Castellanos rushed for 142 yards and powered the Eagles to an early lead with his three earlier scores, and the last brought them back after Army had controlled much of the second half.

After Boston College was stopped on two attempts from inside the 3, Castellanos kept the ball on third down and ran to his right for the go-ahead score. Castellanos had earlier rushed for TDs of 20, 4 and 10 yards. BC has won two straight for the first time since 2021.

Bryson Daily ran for 99 yards and threw a touchdown pass for Army. The Tar Heels (5-0, 2-0 ACC) breezed past the Orange (4-2, 0-2) in Chapel Hill as Drake Maye threw for three touchdowns and ran for another. The Tar Heels barely gave the Orange any chances because of a ball-control offense that churned out 644 yards and about twice as much time of possession.

Receiver Tez Walker made his UNC debut two days after he was cleared to play by the NCAA following a long transfer-eligibility case. Syracuse had 221 yards of total offense in its second straight loss. Quarterback Garrett Shrader was 15 for 21 for 124 yards and an interception.

The host Tigers (4-2, 2-2 ACC) overcame the Demon Deacons (3-2, 0-2). Cade Klubnik and Will Shipley ran for touchdowns, and Clemson’s defense held Wake Forest in check throughout a victory that gave Tigers coach Dabo Swinney a program-record-tying 165th win. Clemson won its 15th straight over Wake Forest despite its offense putting up a season-low 307 yards.

Swinney tied the mark of the late Frank Howard, who was Clemson’s coach from 1940-69. The Tigers have a week off before Swinney gets his first chance to move in front when they face No. 17 Miami on Oct.

21. Clemson’s defense showed out strong with a goal line stand in the first half after Wake Forest recovered a fumble at the Tigers’ 9. The Demon Deacons had just 239 yards.

Shipley’s 1-yard touchdown run with 5:49 to play made things more comfortable. But the Tigers will have to show much more on offense if they hope to escape South Florida with a win in a couple of weeks. Clemson lost two fumbles and missed a field goal.
