ApeCoin is expanding its suite of community services with the Bored Ape Gazette, a newsletter reporting relevant news for members of the extended Yuga Labs family. The publication will receive $150,000 to launch, pay freelancers, and overhaul its website from ApeCoin DAO’s treasury. Moreover, these funds should last for one year.
The AIP-70 proposal, detailing the Bored Ape Gazette’s development, underwent voting earlier last week. Over 1. 1 million members of the ApeCoin DAO approved it.
Meanwhile, only around 149,000 members deemed it unnecessary. Soon, the Bored Ape Gazette will launch and cover news about the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs, Mutant Apes (MAYC), Kennel Club (BAKC), and Yuga Labs’ upcoming metaverse game, Otherside. How Will the Bored Ape Gazette Work? Before it became the AIP-70 proposal, the BA Gazette was an obscure project from BAYC supporters.
It even had a website, which launched in June 2021, but only gathered around 52k visits in a year. Nevertheless, its writer and editor, Kyle Swenson – a long-time BAYC holder, was sure the project had growth potential. After reaching the proposal table of the ApeCoin DAO – a decentralized organization using ApeCoin crypto as its governance token – the Bored Ape Gazette started attracting substantial support.
Now, it is more than an idea but a soon-to-be-launched project with a $150,000 capital cushion. Swenson will get $7,000 monthly from those funds to create more content focusing on ApeCoin DAO, NFT news, and other Yuga Labs projects. Meanwhile, the remaining money will go towards hiring writers from the ApeCoin DAO community.
Notably, freelancers will get $100 for every story they write which makes it into publication. This is a community paper that should be written by members of the $Ape community! the proposal reads. Lastly, the Bored Ape Gazette will reach members as a bi-weekly newsletter.
Bias and Controversies Those opposing the AIP-70 proposal argue the gazette might provide biased information. After all, it is a BAYC-funded publication containing stories from BAYC members. Swenson was quick to debunk these controversies, saying: The Gazette doesn’t promote.
It reports the news that Apes need to know. Objective reporting is important to me. The Gazette will always be a voice for the community, and I work hard to be balanced when covering any story.
Kyle Swenson is a former Dow Jones News Fund intern at the Orlando Business Journal. Also, he was the editor-in-chief of the independent Knight News, covering the University of Central Florida. These are just a few of his writing and journalism references.
After the proposal passed, Swenson pledged his efforts to make the Bored Ape Gazette a reliable information source for the apes: My goal is never to tell people what to think. My goal has been and always will be to bring the community the important information that they need to make their own decisions.
