Apple Loop is here to remind you of a few of the very many discussions that have happened around Apple over the last seven days ( and you can read my weekly digest of Android news here on Forbes ). iPhone 15 Pro Specs Set To Improve With the long lead time on consumer electronics production, it shouldn’t be surprising that details on the next iPhone are available. Nor should it come as too much of a surprise that the specs will be bumped up.
And nor is it a surprise that the tight 6 GB confines of the iPhone 14 Pro will be expanded up to 8 GB: “TrendForce predicts that the 15 Pro models will be equipped with an increased 8GB of RAM to complement the A17 chip, compared to 6GB for the iPhone 14 Pro models. The standard models will likely continue to have 6GB of RAM. ” ( MacRumors ).
22 September 2021, Lower Saxony, Oldenburg: A Lightning charging plug is inserted into an Apple . . .
[+] iPhone. The EU Commission presents a proposal for a uniform mobile phone charging socket. The issue of chargers has preoccupied the EU institutions for more than a decade.
In 2009, under pressure from the EU Commission, 14 mobile phone manufacturers – including Apple – agreed on a uniform standard for power supply units in a voluntary commitment. When it comes to the jacks in smartphones and tablet computers, three types remain from what were once several dozen: the now obsolete Micro-USB, the newer USB-C, and Apple’s thinner “Lightning” connectors. Since then, however, consumers have waited in vain for a uniform jack.

Hawaii Officials Warn World’s Largest Active Volcano Could Erupt iPhone’s USB-C Future This may not be the only big change coming to the iPhone 15. Following legislation in the European Union, Apple will be forced to ship at least one version of the iPhone 15 with USB-C in place of the lightning port so they can be sold in Europe… although that might not force a switch over the entire portfolio: “. .
. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of worldwide marketing, confirmed that Apple will follow new European Union law mandating the use of USB-C on all smartphones sold in its member countries from autumn 2024. But that might not be the end of the Lighting port on iPhones.
” ( Forbes ). Here Comes Apple’s MacOS 13 We might not have a new MacBook Pro (yet), but MacBook owners are getting an upgrade with the launch of the next version of macOS, ready to be installed around the world, following the customary testing period after WWDC. What’s worth noting is not the leaps forward but the steps taken to homogenize the Apple ecosystem: “Overwhelmingly, new features for macOS merely help it keep pace with what is happening on the iPhone and iPad.
That feels doubly true in Ventura, where a core system app has been rewritten from the ground up to mirror its iOS counterpart, where a new window management feature is being implemented in the same way on the iPad, and where new apps and updates to old ones are increasingly just iPad apps running inside macOS windows. ” ( Ars Technica ). Go Big And Go iPad Will Apple super-size the iPad Pro range and deliver a 16-inch tablet by the end of next year? There are certainly indications that such a device is being planned.
As with any device, there are lots of iterations, and not all make it to the market, but if Apple wants your next computer to not be a computer but be an iPad, having a ver large screen would be a nice (if expensive) option: “Samsung bedazzled the industry earlier this year by announcing the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, a 14. 6-inch tablet. It would have served as an ideal laptop replacement had it not run One UI, an operating system designed for smartphones.
Apple wants to one-up Samsung and introduce an even larger iPad next year. According to a report by The Information, a 16-inch iPad will be launched sometime in Q4, 2023. The tablet could be unveiled alongside the rumoured 14-inch iPad Pro mentioned in earlier leaks.
” ( Notebook Check ). Apple Subscription Prices Rise Apple has announced a price rise for users of Apple Music, Apple TV+ and Apple One, citing licensing fees that need to be paid to rights holders. Still, you have all your playlists, your mood charts, and your favourited artists locked into Apple Music.
You’re not going to leave your curated lists behind for a small price rise, are you? “Apple cited the recent increase in licensing fees. Apple Music and its competitors will have to pay 15. 35 percent of music revenue to songwriters and publishing rights holders starting next year, a 0.
25 percent increase over the current rate and nearly 5 percent more than the old rate. But at $10. 99, Apple’s service is now more expensive than Amazon Music, which is $8.
99 per month, and Spotify, which has been stuck at $9. 99 per month for more than a decade. ” ( Hot Pod / The Verge ).
And Finally. . .
Apple’s Q4 revenue report is here. It shows an eight percent rise in revenue year on year to $90 billion, with net income up 1 percent to $20. 7 billion.
Unlike other Silicon Valley results, Apple is keeping its ship steady: “Apple is not being hurt as much as we were originally worried about in terms of consumer demand,” said Daniel Morgan, a senior portfolio manager at Synovus Trust Co. , which counts Apple among its largest holdings. “You could make the case that consumer demand is healthy based on these growth rates.
