All rights reserved Another month’s worth of Wordle puzzles has been and gone, but the world’s second-most popular game among Twitter’s gaming community is still a cause for consternation among players on the platform.
According to new research from the social media giant, August proved to be sexy, shy, saucy, and in one case, favoring of American Wordlers. The brain trust that is the Twitter Comms team has brought together the five most difficult Wordle puzzles in August, trawling through those tweets that declare the doomed “Wordle X/6” phrase. It turns out that the beginning of the month was a trial by fire like no other.
Hardest Wordle answers of August 2022, according to Twitter 5) Wordle (August 12): LABEL LABEL, a classic double-letter answer, begins our top-five countdown of most difficult Wordle answers–one made all the more difficult because the L bookends the phrase. Combined with an underused B, it’s absolutely no surprise to see word in this list, even if discussions about labels are all the rage these days. 4) Wordle (August 27): RUDER Hot on the heels of one bookended Wordle answer is another.
RUDER isn’t exactly a popularly used word, but it’s also one with dozens of alternative answers within a two-letter swap; BUYER, CUTER, ELDER, OLDER, QUEER, RADAR, RAVER, REFER, RODEO, SUPER, TUDOR and many more would constitute great guesses with three correctly placed letters. It’s a phrase that’s aged so badly, you’d be forgiven for wondering if anyone under the age of 25 would even know it exists.
2) Wordle (August 1): QUART Kicking off the month of August was Wordle ’s second-hardest answer, and it’s most likely due to its lack of use among non-Americans. As a Brit, the first time I’d ever heard the phrase “quart” was while watching Luc Besson’s spectacular Léon: The Professional , in which the titular anti-hero drinks two quarts of milk a day. Here in the U.
K. , we bottle milk in pints or liters–“quart” is up there with “cup” in the internationally reviled list of U. S.
measurements. Of course, QUART also begins with QU–never a popular option for your standard Wordle player. 1) Wordle (August 2): COYLY Don’t be shy–use a Y.
The double letter in COYLY–a word describing the way of acting in “an outwardly shy or modest way intended to be alluring”–is one major stumbling block, but the word itself is so rarely used that it doesn’t look like it should even exist. Coming one day after QUART, Wordle players no doubt felt short changed just two days into August.
