Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Babylon’s Fall Square Enix When we talk about low scoring games of 2022, we can talk about Saints Row with its series low 66 Metascore, but there are levels well beyond that. You could make the argument that the single worst game this year is a shockingly bad collaboration between Square Enix and Platinum Games, Babylon’s Fall , where its 46(!) Metascore on PC is lower than anything else that’s been released this year, short of Postal 4, but I mean, Postal games are almost bad on purpose at this point, so that’s cheating. While Babylon’s Fall has only been live since March of 2022, Square Enix announced today that it was going to be shutting down the game completely “With the desire of delivering an exhilarating online multiplayer action RPG set in an elaborate high fantasy world, we launched the game’s official service on Thursday, March 3, 2022, and have continued to undertake additional development and operations.
However, it is with deep regret to inform you that we will be terminating the game’s service on February 27, 2023. ” Metacritic Metacritic This suspends sales of premium currency in the game and new sales of the game, where it’s currently being sold for $60, with a $100 Deluxe Edition, with the game being overpriced long being one of the complaints about it. The game itself will live until late February of next year, but you cannot buy it anymore, and if you’re playing, you can’t spend money on it.
Babylon’s Fall is one of the biggest mainstream misses we’ve seen in recent memories, with Square Enix trying to play the live service game, but the end result was mostly disastrous. Reaching the endgame and postgame content (when the game actually becomes quite good) doesn’t matter because the journey to get to that point is the most painfully boring affair in gaming.
The game’s dull story and horrendous visuals certainly don’t do this game any favors. ” And Hardcore Gamer: “To say the dismal failings on its loot aspect — and perhaps, even its live-service ecosystem on top — isn’t even the lowest moment should give you a clearer picture on how badly PlatinumGames and Square Enix together have missed the mark here. ” Will this disappoint some sort of Babylon’s Fall niche fanbase? That does not seem likely, given that Steamcharts is currently showing zero players online, with a 30 day average of…four players.
No one was playing, which is why it’s being killed off in the first place. I have no idea what exactly Platinum and Square Enix were doing releasing a game in this state, but it’s easily one of the worst releases of the year, and now it’s just…fully dead, probably what it deserves.
