Now British audio brand Cambridge Audio has announced a brand-new turntable just in time to play some of that vinyl you’re going to be buying on Record Store Day.
The new Alva ST extends Cambridge Audio’s portfolio of turntables to reach a whole new generation of vinyl lovers. The Alva ST can connect to traditional hi-fi systems or be used to stream vinyl wirelessly to Bluetooth headphones, speakers or even Bluetooth-enabled amplifiers. OLIVER BEAMISH The Alva ST features Bluetooth aptX HD for wireless streaming to amplifiers, headphones and speakers. This means the turntable can be placed anywhere in your room without worrying about wires and yet it will stream music at 24-bit/48kHz. The belt-drive system has electronic speed control enabling users to switch easily between playing albums and singles.
There’s also a new high mass and low-resonance tonearm designed to keep resonance to a minimum. For those who have newer amplifiers without a phono stage, the Alva AT has a built-in phono preamp based on Cambridge Audio’s Alva Duo phono stage so there’s no need for extra boxes and wires. To ensure the Alva ST works straight out of the box, Cambridge Audio has pre-installed an Audio-Technica moving magnet cartridge.
The platter is made from diecast aluminum which has been CNC milled to ensure a level and smooth surface. The platter is finished with a rubber mat to reduce unwanted vibrations.
