For Broncos safety P. J. Locke, last Sunday was one of those moments that’s hard to put into words.
He recorded his first career interception to solidify Denver’s 19-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers. Later that night, he attended Travis Scott’s Circus Maximus Tour at Ball Arena, where artist Teezo Touchdown wore Locke’s game-worn jersey while performing the song “Modern Jam” with the Houston rapper. Locke and Teezo Touchdown, whose real name is Aaron Thomas, are both from Beaumont, Texas, and have known each other since middle school.
Teezo gave Denver’s fourth-year safety backstage passes. And in return, Locke signed his jersey and gave it to Teezo. “That was a blessing, man.
I don’t even know how to explain it,” Locke told The Denver Post. Locke has enjoyed watching Teezo’s rise in the music industry. In addition to Teezo appearing on Scott’s latest album “Utopia,” he has a feature on Drake’s album “For All the Dogs,” which released earlier this month, and Tyler, The Creator’s “Call Me If You Get Lost.
” He is also the opening act on Scott’s tour. Locke said he and Teezo hope to inspire others from Beaumont to achieve their dreams. “We’ve got the same vision as far as bringing people together and giving hope back in our hometown,” Locke said.
“Just for us to connect and show everybody that (there are) two guys doing two different things at the professional level is something that needed to happen. ” While backstage, Locke had a chance to meet Scott for the first time. Locke told Scott’s manager that he was a Texas native and was immediately hooked up with free merch.
“It’s crazy how it happened,” Locke said. “The (day) I get the (interception). It’s a big show and there was a lot of buzz around it.
It (was) huge. ” The Chiefs in Week 6 were credited with nine passes defensed against Russell Wilson and the Broncos, and the Kansas City defensive line had a lot to do with that. George Karlaftis got his hands on a pair of passes and Chris Jones another.
Willie Gay tipped a pass that Justin Reid intercepted in the third quarter just as the Broncos entered scoring range. “They’re coached extremely well in that part of the game,” Wilson said. “Big ol’ Chris (Jones) is phenomenal at it.
He’s been great at it his whole career and they’ve got some other guys that are good at it, too. The best thing we can do is be physical up front, find the lanes. They’re going to do a good job of getting their hands up – I think they lead the league in batted passes across the league.
“It’s something they’re unique at and do a great job at it. ” Every active Broncos player was on the practice field in some capacity on Thursday, though two new injury report listings to keep tabs on popped up. Wide receiver Brandon Johnson (hamstring) and left tackle Garett Bolles (hip) were limited for the first time this week.
Meanwhile, running back Dwayne Washington (knee) returned to practice as a full participant and safety Justin Simmons (hip/groin) and OLB Baron Browning (knee) both also practiced fully. .
