When he’s not racing in Formula 1 with McLaren, the 22-year-old racing prodigy is streaming video games on his Twitch channel to thousands of viewers, often playing alongside fellow drivers Charles Leclerc and George Russell. In late 2020, Norris founded Quadrant, an esports organization that combines the driver’s “love for Gaming, Lifestyle, Content, and Apparel.
” Previously, the org only fielded professional teams in Halo and Call of Duty , but as of this week, Quadrant has entered the Rocket League Championship Series. The brand-new Quadrant Rocket League squad consists of Kash, RelatingWave, and Eekso, three promising British talents who began the 2022-23 RLCS season under the team name “Goldbridge Ball. ” Nobody quite knew what to expect from Quadrant’s first tournament.
Each member of the squad has achieved impressive but inconsistent results in previous competitions, and forming a team so close to beginning of the season left the players with little time to establish crucial in-game chemistry. However, the Quadrant squad have immediately proven themselves on the professional Rocket League circuit in the European Fall Open, the first major European regional tournament of the season. The series was as tight as they come, with five of seven games decided by a single goal. Ultimately, Quadrant scored a desperate but crucial goal almost four minutes into overtime to defeat Team BDS and punch their ticket to Championship Sunday. Team BDS dominated both European and World tournaments last season, making Quadrant’s upset one of the most surprising in recent history.
Only time will tell if this victory is due to an off-day from the world champions, or if the new squad are truly title contenders. Quadrant will face Oxygen Esports in the European Fall Open semifinals on Sunday, October 16th, which you can watch live on Twitch. tv/RocketLeague .
