Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Crown Netflix While Queen Elizabeth’s 70 year reign will have many chapters in the history books, the mechanism which many around the world relate to the Queen in the past few years has not been history books, but rather a TV show. The Crown, the prestigious Netflix drama which has run for four seasons so far, chronicling Elizabeth’s rise and rule. The Crown is one of Netflix’s biggest hits, racking up Emmy nominations and wins, and it has a…complicated relationship with the Royal Family.

Now, in the wake of Queen Elizabeth’s death, we are seeing resurgent interest in the series, as it is ascending the Netflix top 10 charts in many regions, including the US, where it’s currently at #6 despite a new season still being months away. The Crown has made the news on a few different fronts in the wake of Queen Elizabeth’s death. Namely that out of respect for her, the show suspended production for a day upon learning of her passing, and will suspend again on the day of her funeral.

Upon announcing these moves, showrunner Peter Morgan said “The Crown is a love letter to her. ” Though did Elizabeth feel the same way? Does the Royal Family? It’s…complicated. Here’s are some thoughts from different members of the Royal family, or sources close to members, about The Crown over the years: DUBBO, AUSTRALIA – OCTOBER 17: Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex visit a .

I’m way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family or my wife or myself.

She was particularly annoyed at a scene in which Philip has no sympathy for a plainly upset Charles while he is flying him home from Scotland. That simply did not happen. ” LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – JUNE 3: (EDITORIAL USE ONLY) In this handout image supplied by St James’s .

He feels that both his parents are being exploited and being presented in a false, simplistic way to make money. In this case, it’s dragging up things that happened during very difficult times 25 or 30 years ago without a thought for anyone’s feelings.

That isn’t right or fair, particularly when so many of the things being depicted don’t represent the truth. ” In summary, it’s not too shocking that A) the royal family likes the show when it portrays them positively B) does not like it when it portrays them negatively and C) it probably does not get everything right as no one was a fly on the wall in every instance shown in the series. Overall, I’d argue that The Crown has done more to humanize the Royal Family and Elizabeth herself than anything, though to be human is to have good and bad traits, triumphs and failures.

Things may get a little more prickly as the show moves into the era of Diana’s death, and then the Harry split later on. I will be curious to see how far The Crown rises on Netflix from here on out. If you haven’t seen it, I can highly recommend it, regardless of your opinion of the royal family.

It’s a little more complicated than a “love letter,” and a layered series that’s worth your time. Follow me on Twitter , YouTube , Facebook and Instagram . Subscribe to my free weekly content round-up newsletter, God Rolls .
