(Photo by AaronP/Bauer-Griffin/GC Images) GC Images Today, Renegade Game Studios announced an extension of its partnership with Hasbro to produce new versions of some of the most famous strategy board games in the industy. Renegade will also produce editions of the classic game Risk featuring some of Hasbro’s most popular IP.
These new versions include Power Rangers, Transformers and G. I. JOE.

” Hasbro has partnered with Renegade Game Studios since 2018 to expand Hasbro IP in the tabletop gaming space. Renegade has created card games, miniatures games and role playing games for multiple worlds. The company built the Essence20 RPG rules as a gateway for players who want to roleplay in these beloved settings.

We hope that fans will look forward to adding to their collection new battles and themes for the Axis & Allies brand, expanding on its 41-year history,” said Jess Richardson, VP, Global Toy & Game, Licensed Consumer Products at Hasbro. The announced expansion will cover four titles out of Hasbro’s catalogue.
Axis & Allies and Robo Rally are currently in print through the Avalon Hill imprint. Diplomacy and Squad Leader have fan bases anxiously awaiting new versions. Axis & Allies The original Axis & Allies was released as part of the Gamemaster Series.
These big box games focused on deep strategy and long term games. Axis & Allies allowed up to five players to take up the leadership of the powers during World War II and play out epic historical conflict. The gameline has expansed to several releases, including games that focus on specific theaters of war and collectible miniatures.
2018 saw a release that added zombies to the mix. Robo Rally Robo Rally is a programmed movement game first released by Wizards of the Coast in 1994. It was designed by Richard Garfield, the legendary designer of Magic: The Gathering.
The most recent edition was released in 2016. The game features players steering robots trying to hit checkpoints on a board while avoiding the dangers of the board. They are dealt cards that they have to use to get the robots into positing by placing them in a specific order.
The robots also have a tendency to muck up the series as they bounce off of each other and cause damage. Diplomacy Diplomacy was first published in the 1950s. It popularized the play by mail genre of games.
Rumors abound that actual heads of state like playing the game. Diplomacy doesn’t have random elements like cards or dice, giving it a huge following of fans that enjoy pure strategy and negotiation. It sets up players as the major world powers leading up to World War I trying to come out on top.
The game also has a reputation for causing arguments in the game that last well after everything goes back in the box. Squad Leader Wargames have a reputation for trying to simulate realistic combat. Squad Leader, first published in 1977, has a reputation among fans as being brutally realistic.
The game zooms in on World War II with conflicts between Russian, German and American soldiers. The original game was successful enough that three major expansions were released for it. It also created a cottage industry of fan support that included alternate rules and scenarios.
