. [+] of construction time. Rendering by Balbek Bureau According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, over 2,000 local schools have been damaged and 330 destroyed since the Russian invasion began 16 months ago.

This sobering news inspired an international team to come together to build the largest one-story educational facility in the world with an on-site 3D construction printer. The first part of the building already is complete, and the second stage of construction has begun. If all goes according to plan, the school will open for students in January 2024.

It will be the first educational institution in Ukraine and Europe ever to be printed with a construction 3D printer. Lviv School No 23 is being built in partnership with the Lviv City Council by charity Team4UA , which was founded by Jean-Christophe Bonis, and the Humanitarian Innovative Technologies (HIT) fund. For the past 20 years, Bonis has developed and financed startups in South America, Europe, and Asia.

When Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Bonis felt called to help. He stepped back from other business activities in order to create the Team4UA Foundation. Bonis cofounded HIT with digital construction expert Dominique Piotet, a French American who has been residing in Ukraine since 2019 and serves as the CEO of the most significant innovation park in Kyiv.

His 30-plus years of expertise in advanced digital ecosystems and leadership skills are helping to ensure the construction project’s success. “We are built on humanity and compassion,” he says. “We are driven by edgy technology and its high impact on the future of people and the world.

While he is still training a team using technology to be faster and better, as he was before, at the end of the day his objective is not to deliver profit but rather to deliver impact. 8 Billion Amid Tourism Boom “I am giving people something they need – in the case of this project, not just reconstruction of a school, but also of the country and of hope. That is absolutely changing the game for me as an individual and is a big step in my career,” Bonis said in an exclusive interview with me. “We are planning to set up our operations globally and fund an international team that can provide emergency aid anywhere.

” The greatest challenge the project faces is fundraising. In the beginning, almost everyone involved in the school project was serving on a voluntary basis. But eventually, Bonis felt he had to pay experts to come in.

He chose to partner with the United Nations in order to receive their accreditation, and as a result has been able to solicit more donations. Bonis has faced challenges getting people to understand and support the power of 3D construction . .

3D construction printing is not widely understood or employed at this time. And yet Bonis was able to win tremendous support on the local and national level in Ukraine in order to authorize the 3D construction printing of the school. Globally, he continues to face challenges around 3D construction printing legislation and training people on the technology, even though 3D printing is faster than traditional construction methods.

That said, one year into the Lviv school project, Bonis says he is “very happy because we faced and overcame all the challenges. We started printing the school and we opened the perspective for the reconstruction of the country. Now we are planning to print a bridge in the Kherson area, and hope soon to print an 8-story building in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Despite the daily challenges, I’m very inspired by this work and by the Ukrainians. ” To aspiring change makers, Bonis says, “If you have a vision, never, never let it go. If you have an idea, keep following, adapt, pivot if needed.

In Ukraine now, even if it is a country of war where people are dying every day, where we have missiles and drones attacking us from Russia on a daily basis, the people have an amazing spirit. They are innovative. They see that as soon as the war is over, Ukraine will have all the potential to be a leader worldwide and to help others.
