Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The Walking Dead AMC The Walking Dead is about to start the final part of its eleventh season tomorrow, the last season of the show before it fractures into at least three different spin-offs starring a bunch of main characters going to different locations. It has cast somewhat of a shadow over the finale of the show, where the cast is wildly different from the comic at this point with so many departures, plus a long list of clearly “safe” people, based on the spin-offs we know are coming. But one weird thing appears to have happened, that for some reason, the long-planned final scene of The Walking Dead has been changed, according to showrunner Angela Kang speaking to RadioTimes : “I will say without spoiling that our intended final scene is not the final scene anymore.
I won’t go into that now, so early in the process, but sometimes, even after you’ve shot things, it changes in the post-production process. It’s a living work, as we go. ” She wouldn’t say whether it was cut completely or just altered.
“It’s. . .
I don’t even know if I should say that much! Let’s just say that things changed. ” So what’s going on? It seems somewhat unlikely that the show will end like the comics, with a massive flash forward in time, focusing on a grown-up Carl. Even if with Carl dead, and they filled that role with Judith, all the spin-offs would indicate they don’t want the universe as a whole to leap that much ahead in time.

I wonder if previously, this was planned as a tease for his movies, which no longer exist, and now it has to be changed because he’s now doing this new series with Michonne instead. There’s another major recent change that happened, that Carol, Melissa McBride, left Daryl’s spin-off because she didn’t want to relocate to France.
So I’m curious if say, they may kill her off in the finale instead so some major character actually dies. But I kind of doubt it. What seems the most likely is that this has something to do with at least one of the three spin-offs planned for the main cast.
When the original finale was written, I cannot imagine all these other projects were greenlit or finalized, so it seems like something would probably have to change to accommodate them. I know that Kang and Jeffrey Dean Morgan were not exactly pleased about AMC announcing his and Maggie’s spin-off so early, as it really reduces the stakes of the finale season. The same goes for Daryl.
We’ll see what ends up happening here, but I would not be surprised if this all turns out to be kind of an anti-climax given the next phase of the Walking Dead universe AMC has planned here.
