For many young singles, the dating game (be it online or offline) can be a daunting prospect, with so many variables in play to give even the most confident of players the jitters at times. Wanting to help young Singaporeans navigate the world of new relationships and prospective romances, Tinder – arguably the world’s most popular dating app – has launched a new educational initiative called “School of Swipe”, which works as a crash course of sorts to help young singles in the island city become better daters both online and offline. According to survey data provided by Tinder, young Singaporeans typically feel “hopeful” (61 percent) and “excited” (56 percent) about their dating futures, although when it comes to the actual thing, around half (50 percent) admit to feelings of awkwardness and hesitation to make the first move.
Just as interesting was the fact that over 75 percent said that they feel free to be themselves while choosing their matches on dating apps, although over two thirds find it tough to begin conversations with matches on said apps. With the goal of helping these hopeful relationship-seekers overcome these obstacles, the School of Swipe has been engineered as mobile-first “wingmate” that actively imparts knowledge while demystifying online dating as a whole. Visitors to the website will be given tips and how-to’s on things like creating better dating profiles, finding angles for starting conversations with matches, and having fun with dating online before safely transitioning to the offline portion of the activity – where matches finally end up meeting in real life.
Equally, there will also be guides on how to best navigate Tinder’s slew of features to get a better overall experience, such as spotlighting the app’s privacy and security features, and also the various activities and discovery modes to find matches with even higher degrees of compatibility. “We’ve learnt through our study and from our conversations with young people that when they are faced with questions about dating, they are not quite sure where to go or who to speak to,” said Tinder’s APAC Communications Lead Papri Dev during the launch of the initiative in Singapore. “And that’s where Tinder, as the world’s largest dating app, comes in.
With our newly launched School of Swipe, an easy to navigate online guide for singletons to use anytime anywhere, we want to help young adult singles feel more confident in their dating journeys. ” Young and eager singles who want to benefit from these resources can now hit up the School of Swipe website here , and can look forward to more events under the banner (such as mixers and workshops) within the coming months.
