Share to Facebook Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin She-Hulk Disney Plus The review scores for She-Hulk have gone up and down since its release, but now we seem to have finally settled in with something approaching a final number. And as such, we can see where it stacks up against other MCU Disney Plus series. One thing to keep in mind here is that critics have seen the first four episodes, while audiences have only seen the pilot.
And there was definitely some amount of initial 1 star/low score bombing from viewers. Ms. Marvel – 98% critics, 81% audiences What If…? – 94% critics, 94% audiences Loki – 92% critics, 91% audiences Hawkeye – 92% critics, 90% audiences WandaVision – 91% critics, 88% audiences Moon Knight – 86% critics, 91% audiences She-Hulk – 86% critics, 66% audiences The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – 84% critics, 84% audiences So, we are arriving on the lower end here, even after it had gone up to 94-95% for a time when initial reviews came in.
And of course the audience score is way, way lower than anything else, though I am willing to chalk that up to a combination of complaints about CGI, and the very female-centric, “men just don’t get it” narrative found in the pilot that has already inspired dozens of angry dude YouTube video. While Iman Vellani absolutely killed it as Kamala, the show simply was not structured well, a movie chopped up awkwardly into six episodes, where only maybe three of them really worked coherently with one another. It’s certainly not the best thing the MCU has ever produced, which is what that critic score would imply. Generally speaking, I’d say the Loki and WandaVision are the most universally beloved MCU series.
What If…? is kind of its own thing, separate as an animated anthology, but I still thought I should include it here. Hawkeye was also solid. The “weak” links are Moon Knight and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and now potentially, She-Hulk, but it’s just too early to tell, at least from the audience side with only one out of nine episodes available to the public.
Though given that it does feel like a show designed to stick it to a certain comic book crowd, I would expect the backlash against it from those groups to continue into the indefinite future. She-Hulk is certainly an experiment, full of comedy and fourth wall-breaking. We’ll see how things play out over the longer term, and then we’ll turn our eye to the next upcoming series like Secret Invasion and Loki season 2.
