OAKLAND — A hectic June double homicide at a local gas station has resulted in felony charges against three men who police identified as suspects, but none of those arrested have been charged with killing either victim, court records show. The three felony cases were all filed after the June 4 shootout at a gas station on 66th Avenue and San Leandro Street, where at least three people fired guns and both victims were shot while attempting to flee to safety. All three suspects were identified through surveillance footage, authorities said.

The victims, 23-year-old Idriek Patterson, of Newark, and 25-year-old Anteasa Collins, of Stockton, were killed at different times during the shootout. Collins was transported to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and pronounced dead that same night, authorities said. The shooting was reported around 5:30 a.

m. Two cars pulled into the gas station and gunfire erupted just moments later. Patterson was in a Buick with a woman and a man identified by police as 30-year-old Damarea Jones, an Oakland resident.

Collins was in a Hyundai with Dominic Gates, 29, and Sir Cameron Young, 21, according to police. Authorities allege that Gates and Young ran up to the Buick and began shooting, at which pointed Jones returned fire. Patterson attempted to run for cover but was fatally shot in the process, allegedly by Gates.

The two then attempted to drive away in the Hyundai but inadvertently passed Jones, who fired into the vehicle and struck Collins, according to authorities. All three men were identified by police from surveillance footage, authorities said. Additionally, investigators say they recognized Gates and Young from popular rap videos the two have recorded together.

Gates later admitted to dropping off Collins at the hospital, and police noted Collins had a tattoo on her neck that said, “Dominic,” further establishing a connection between them, authorities say. Since the shooting, Young has been charged with possessing an assault weapon, discharging a firearm with gross negligence and possessing a firearm within city limits, all in connection with the June 4 shooting. He also faces unrelated gun charges stemming from an arrest three weeks later.

Gates has been charged with failing to register as a sex offender, due to a prior conviction of pimping a girl 16 or younger, court records show. Jones has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Court records say he has a 2019 evading police conviction that disallows him from possessing guns.

In addition to the gun he allegedly fired into the Hyundai, police say they found a disassembled pistol hidden in the heater during a search of his home, and that shotgun and an assault rifle were located at the residence as well. During Jones’ July 3 arrest and search of his Oakland residence, he was with a woman who police believe was present during the shooting. Authorities say they also located the Buick, which had multiple bullet holes.

All three men have bailed out of jail. The charges remain pending. .
